We were all on our way to a sciece museum and of course we were all most excited about the dino exhibit. E watches a lot of video essays and talked a little bit about this one and the rest of us were intrigued to watch it and then all talk about it. That's how our video essay club started.
This video talks about how Christian creationists use fake fossils to 'prove' that their version of Christianity is correct. What is interesting is that they don't use these fake fossils to directly prove anything, rather they use it to 'disprove' evolution/modern science, and then simply start claiming that creationism as they see it must be correct. I found this quite silly.
I am glad to have discussed this video with others, we all had some different perspectives to bring. E had actually been part of a Christian group that believed in creationism, and told us that there was a lot of talk about isolating themselves from believers and scientists, and that they had to convert those people into believing in creationism/Christianity as a part of their faith. This gave myself (not a creationist/Christian) some more insight into why these creationists go through such lengths for their ideals. I am sure a lot of is just a girft, but I think a lot of it is also genuine people thinking they are both doing the right thing and if they don't understand how science works (for one reason or another) they are just very misguided.
This got us talking about how science is taught and communicated, but the next video actually goes into that more so I'll have that conversation there.
